Role Definition

The Pre Sales Engineer works with clients in a fast-paced technology environment and has a deep understanding of IP networks, wireless technologies including WiFi and cellular networks (LTE, HSPA+, WCDMA, GSM), and Linux platforms. The Pre Sales Engineer is a technical evangelist for my client’s proprietary systems and also has in-depth knowledge of third-party hardware within the firm’s portfolio. The key areas of responsibility are:

 

  • Client interaction to determine technological requirements, and tracking of any changes as may materialise during what is sometimes a protracted sales process
  • Understand and contribute to the sales process by way of responding to RFIs, RFPs and RFQs, and participating in quote preparation.
  • Use in-depth product and/or industry knowledge to provide specialized technical application knowledge and expertise to sales staff and the client through sales presentations and product demonstrations.
  • Design and implement solutions, drive proof of concepts and demonstrate the solution implemented to match the client requirements.
  • Build test cases to confirm the operational stability of all hardware and applications, and performance delivery.
  • Gauge user experience through coverage and performance testing optimising the system for adherence to the minimum requirements.
  • Drive the deployment of the solution ensuring conformance to the design during post sale.
  • Manage the handover to the client or in-house support staff through training and documentation of all aspects of the solution.
  • Support the NOC to resolve critical issues when they and the field engineers have exhausted all other avenues.
  • Maintain knowledge of assigned products, industries and accounts.

 

 

Mandatory:

  • 3+ years of demonstrable industry experience in TCP/IP networking and Linux system administration.
  • CCNA (or equivalent) or above with clear understanding of L2 and L3 IP protocols and services including but not limited to TCP, UDP, ICMP, IPv4, OSPF, DNS, DHCP and AAA.
  • Demonstrable ability to produce system architectures and the confidence to clearly explain data flow and application interaction.
  • Exceptional technical and business oral and written communication skills demonstrated through significant experience in documentation preparation and presentations to C level executives.
  • Demonstrable knowledge on wireless technologies specifically WiFi (standards and device configuration) and cellular (LTE, WiMAX, WCDMA, GPRS, EDGE and HSPA standards and lifecycles).
  • Ability to quickly analyse data and generate reports for internal and client consumption.
  • Ability to project manage and deliver multiple small scale (demonstrations/proof of concept) projects within strict timeframes.
  • Self-motivated, innovative and constantly looking for ways to improve both product and processes.
  • Bash/Perl/Python scripting for task optimisation and tooling.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in the rail vehicle environment with an appreciation of rolling stock regulations. In particular, experience in defining and specifying systems to be installed onto rail vehicles.
  • English and German speaking
  • Valid passport.

 

Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/ Communication/ Electrical or Computer Science /Network Security or equivalent discipline.
